Since 2022, the EUIPO Office, in cooperation with the UPV, has made it possible to apply for financial support for SMEs for fees related to trademark applications, industrial designs, patent applications, plant varieties and the IP scan service, which is an analytical report prepared by a professionally trained patent attorney regarding the health of a given company in the field of IP.

IP Scan Service

• Reimbursement of costs for intellectual property consultancy.
• Maximum grant: EUR 1,260.
• Up to 90% of the total eligible costs.

Trade Marks and Registered Designs

• Reimbursement of national, EU, regional and international application fees for trade marks and registered designs.
• Maximum grant: EUR 700.
• Up to 75% of the total eligible costs for applications filed within the European Union.
• Up to 50% of the total eligible costs for applications filed outside the European Union.

 Patent Applications

• Reimbursement of filing, search, examination, grant and publication fees for national and European patent applications, as well as legal costs related to European patent applications.
• Utility models are not covered.
• Maximum grant: EUR 1,000 for official fees and EUR 1,500 for legal services.
• Up to 75% reimbursement of filing, search, examination, grant and publication fees for national patent applications.
• Up to 75% reimbursement of filing and search fees for European patent applications.
• Up to 50% reimbursement of legal costs relating to European patent applications, including drafting and preparation costs.

Plant Variety Rights

• Maximum grant: EUR 1,500.
• 75% reimbursement of the online application fee.

The IP Scan service is designed to identify your intellectual property and help you learn how to use and commercialize it.

This service connects you directly with an intellectual property expert selected by your national patent office who will review your business model, products and/or services and growth plans.

Together, you will identify which intangible assets are worth protecting and how your intellectual property can support your business growth. The IP Scan service is not a legal service, but is designed to help your business register your intellectual property and use it now and in the future.

The IP Scan service is funded by the SME Fund. This is a grant scheme designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the European Union cover the costs of registering intellectual property. SMEs using the IP Scan service can be reimbursed for 90% of the cost of the service, provided that they first secure a grant from the EUIPO SME Fund.
